We are Roger and Carol Dubois, who have a combined 80+ years of experience performing various roles at small, medium, and large companies.
Roger’s expertise is in the areas of finance/accounting, operational and systems audit & control, processes, data, and systems. He is prime on RCD Simple Solutions’ development, documentation, and training activities.
Carol’s expertise is in the areas of office processes (payroll, payables, receivables, bookkeeping, etc), office administration and executive support (correspondence, presentations, scheduling and calendar management, etc). She is prime on RCD Simple Solutions’ client relationship management, project activity planning & tracking, logistics & scheduling, and financial operations.
A bit about us socially, with individual work and other details following:
We take advantage of the Vancouver performing arts scene, with season tickets to the Arts Club Theater Company, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Bard on the Beach.
This, along with our decision to launch RCD Simple Solutions, is meant to help keep the brains active, engaged and challenged.
As for the bodies, together we participate in weekly social ballroom dancing at the local community centre and attend various social dinner/dance events held regularly around the Vancouver region.
We are both members of Dragonboat teams. Roger’s Grandragons seniors Team is coached by a member of Team Canada (at the 2023 Worlds, Canada medaled in 101 of 140 events, 53 of which were Gold – woo-hoo!). Carol is on the O2P Team.
And of course, we have taken up Pickleball…
In addition, Carol enjoys long daily walks, and takes line dancing and zumba lessons. Roger runs, and has participated in the annual Vancouver Sun Run as well as the Half-marathon in 2022 and 2023.
We travel at every opportunity, oftentimes with stopovers at or travelling with our children who live in Boston, Brussels, and London England.
We are strong supporters of the United Way. In addition to our financial contributions, Carol has been actively involved in United Way activities, as indicated in her profile below.
Our intent is to donate at least 5% of RCD Simple Solution’s revenue to the United Way each year.
My passion throughout my career has been continuous incremental process improvements, with particular emphasis on automation of data acquisition, compilation and reporting processes to reduce work effort, minimize errors, improve timeliness, and/or produce richer information.
I understand information needs and data from an end user/business perspective, not just from a developer/programmer perspective (yes, there is a big difference), and I have sufficient technical skills to be able to translate and transform raw data to meet the needs. I have used various tools throughout my career, and introduced new ones where necessary, such as PC Express, ACL, and Business Objects ETL/Reporting.
My education includes both management accounting and control, and information systems development and control. In addition to my BMath degree from University of Waterloo (focus on systems and accounting), I am a CPA CMA, and obtained the CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) and CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) designations.
A listing of the various roles that I’ve held during my career:
Northbridge Financial Corporation
- Lead Data SME, EDW/IFRS17 Project
- Vice President, Planning & Analysis
- Director, Finance
- Director, Internal Audit
Nortel
- Senior Manager, Employee Share Options Plan Administration
- Senior Manager, Planning & Management Reporting (Worldwide Consolidation)
- Senior Manager, Policy Development
- Manager, Systems Audit
- Manager, R&D Project Control, Accounting and Reporting
- Manager, HQ Planning and Reporting
- Manager, Treasury and Accounts Payable Systems
- Manager, Payroll System Administration
- Analyst, Payroll
Inglis Limited
- Analyst and then Manager, General Ledger System
In every role, I introduced significant process/reporting improvements. More details are available on my LinkedIn Profile.
In addition, at both Northbridge and Nortel, I was recruited by executive management to develop and implement a special/critical transformation and reporting application in a very compressed timeframe that the Information Technology organizations were not able to address.
I am a former member of Local 343 of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union, and was supporting the executive team of Unifor Local 707 Union who represent workers at Ford Canada’s Oakville manufacturing facility. I also supported the activities of several Union committees, including the United Way Committee’s campaigns and the Retirees Committee’s many events.
Prior to joining the Unifor 707 office, I worked at Hitachi Canada for 14 years, with my last position as Executive Assistant to the CEO and CFO. I was a member of the Community Action Committee involved in organizing charitable and other events.
My professional career began in the Securities industry, pausing to raise our three children and at the same time provide child care services, returning to the workforce once they were school age.
I was a member of the Board of Directors of United Way Halton & Hamilton from 2017 to 2021, representing the Union sector. I am a past officer of the Oakville District Labour Council (ODLC), involved in various activities and events supporting the community and promoting the labour movement.
My work with the ODLC and United Way was recognized with the following awards:
- Barney Bonovac United Way Social Activist (2023)
- Outstanding United Way Union Citizen of the Year (2021)
- Linda Jones Women's Activist (2016)
I have volunteered at several United Way supported organizations, including as a fill in for the Board Secretary at Low Entropy, and administrative work for United Way British Columbia.
